Genetic testing

Have you heard about Nutrigenomix in the media?  Nutrigenomix is a 70-gene test kit that can help you tailor your eating habits according to your genes!  It is available exclusively through Accredited Practising Dietitians.  We are excited to offer it at the Nutrition and Wellbeing Clinic.

Are you eating according to your genes?

When it comes to adopting a healthy diet, a ‘one-size-fits all’ approach may not be suitable for you. Most people have genetic variants, which determine how they respond to dietary components that are linked with disease.

The question is whether you possess the risk variants and, if so, which ones?  Knowing the answer could help provide you with the motivation you need to eat (and drink!) in a more tailored way.

Scope of the gene testing

This genetic test will assess how your unique genes respond to multiple dietary components, which are linked with disease risk. These include:

  • Sodium and high blood pressure

  • Omega-3 fats and triglyceride levels

  • Caffeine and heart disease

  • Saturated fat and obesity

  • Folate and low blood folate levels, which can lead to heart disease

  • Vitamin C and low blood vitamin C levels, which can lead to heart disease, type 2 diabetes and cancer

  • Glycemic Index (GI) and type 2 diabetes

  • Vitamin A, B12, D & E

  • Iron (both overload and deficiency)

  • Calcium and osteoporosis

  • Wholegrains and risk of several disease including type 2 diabetes

  • Energy balance and weight control

  • Physical activity and physical fitness

  • Protein and muscle mass

  • Total fat, which can lead to obesity and heart disease

  • Unsaturated fats and heart health

  • Gluten & lactose , which can indicate intolerances

  • Taste and preference for fats & sugar

  • Snacking between meals

  • Starch and insulin resistance

Easy buccal swab test

The test is simple – it requires you to provide a buccal swab sample (where we swab the inside of your cheek), which we then send to the laboratory for gene testing. When the results return (within 4-6 weeks), your dietitian is able to explain your findings and discuss the recommendations made in your Personalised Nutrition Report to help you achieve ideal food choices and optimal nutrient intake, based on your unique genetic profile. The focus of your report can be on health and wellness, plant-based eating or fertility. Just let us know your preference.

Your investment

The cost of the program is $595 AUS and is payable to us on the day your sample is collected. This includes your specimen collection kit, postage and handling for your specimen to be sent by us to the lab for genotyping, Personalised Nutrition Report and a 30-minute consultation with one of our expert dietitians to explain the findings and identify specific nutrition goals for your wellbeing. You can then choose to do what you like with this information or follow up with your dietitian for additional sessions and learn easy and delicious ways to modify your existing food habits in line with your new goals.

Live within Australia but outside of Sydney? No problem. We can still provide this service to you and there is an additional $30 postage and handling fee. Please call (02) 9899 5208 and ask us how.

Importantly, there are no powders or pills to buy!  Simply good food and healthy lifestyle solutions, which can help you avoid or reduce your risk of future diseases.
